One Year. One Verse. One Thought.

One year ago, I started this blogging endeavor. I would think about something that stuck out to me, put it into words, and then post it. Seems simple. Nothing too rigorous, but something that I truly have enjoyed getting to do. As I reflect on this past year, one verse stands out.

“Abide in me, and I in you. As the branch cannot bear fruit by itself, unless it abides in the vine, neither can you, unless you abide in me.” John 15:4

Some weeks have been easier to write. The inspiration comes, and my fingers are jazzed to start typing. Other times, when I get to the end of the week, there is nothing there. I will sit and stare at my blank Word document late into Sunday evening, hoping something comes. It is as if my ideas revolt or have a restraining order against me. I return to the Lord in prayer, asking, “Lord, what do you want me to write about?” It is in these moments that I am reminded that this isn’t ultimately mine. This blog isn’t mine, but it’s the Lord’s. On my own. I can not produce anything worthwhile. Any idea I have had is from the Lord. It is His work, and He will make a way. As he reminds me of this and makes me depend on Him, He has graciously produced the ideas that I needed. He’s the one who pulls through and leads me to write.

My one thought is that it has been the coolest thing to be a participant to watch week after week, as I trust and rest in Him, and how He bears the fruit. I look forward to however long the Lord wills me to do this. It has only been a year, but what a sweet treat it has been thus far.
